Connecting businesses with customers
A womanly launch : wwn.com.au
WONDERFUL women and marvellous men gathered at the Manningham Gallery last week for the launch of the Wonderful Women Networking website.
Wonderful Women Networking founder, Jill Kennedy, told those at the launch the website would provide opportunities for women in business.
"When I looked into the whole area of advertising on the internet, most host sites were definitely too expensive for small business and appeared to be aimed at the corporate dollar," Ms Kennedy said.
"Having their own page is a most effective and affordable way for women in small business to advertise on the internet."
The network negotiated with a number of web site designers to ensure the clients page would not look like "just another ad".
Even before it's official launch, the site had won an award, being named website of the week by Webgrrls Australia.
Launching the website, Manningham Mayor Irene Goonan, praised Wonderful Women Networking for their foresight.
"This is a really big step in the right direction for all small business people," Cr Goonan said.
"It is something that is very very necessary for the needs of women as we approach the next millenium - there's alot of business to be done on the internet."
CR Goonan said women in business had progressed in leaps and bound in the 21 years since she started her own business in Tunstall Square.
"The bank manager told my husband he was off is head allowing me to borrow money" she said.

"When I started, there were about 40 traders and I was probably the only woman. I had four children and there were no afterschool care or school holiday programs."
"Today, a lot of people have encouraged women to take that really big step out of the house and we all have to learn to be multi-skilled, and that includes learning things about the internet.
Members of the group will be able to set up their own website page for $50.
"The whole aim of WWN was to support women in whatever they do; that's why women who would like to have their own business, or want an opportunity to network outside their professional area, also come along," Ms Kenedy said.
