INTERNET expert Melissa Norfolk will present two workshops next month that are designed to help business owners understand what makes a successful website.
The first workshop, Making Your Website Work, will be held on Thursday, November 13, from 9am - 12:30pm, while Starting Your Web Presence, is from 1:30pm - 5pm.
Ms Norfolk said the workshops include an hour-long seminar and 2 1/2 hours of hands-on computer exercises.
"Websites and e-mail marketing are an effective way to promote your business, increase sales and compete in today's fast-paced world," she said.
"But, it can't be a static non-changing advertisement like in the paper. After it's designed, more time needs to go into marketing it, looking at how many hits you are getting and work out is cost effective."
Ms Norfolk said there was no point just creating a website and waiting for people to find you among the millions of Internet webpages.
"Your online presence is as important as your physical business presence and another doorway into the business."
Ms Norfolk said 95 per cent of Australian businesses were connected to the internet but of those only 72 per cent had a website.
Ms Norfolk, of Melissa Norfolk Web Design, is an experienced speaker on the use of the Internet and technology in business.
Registrations for the workshops, at ITC, 800 Swanston St, Parkville (opposite Melbourne University), close October 20.
